Unitarian Universalist Society Of Germantown-Different People, Different Beliefs, One Faith

The 2010 Martin Luther King Day of Service

at the Unitarian Society of Germantown

Thanks very much to everyone who worked so hard to make our 2010 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service a GREAT SUCCESS!  Between 250 to 300 volunteers came out and worked on projects that were coordinated by the Unitarian Society of Germantown.  We worked closely with and received strong support from many other Unitarian Universalist congregations as well as churches of other faith traditions.  It is also true that the quantity and quality of work by the people of our church was truly amazing.  Throughout the day we consistently noted how happy people were to be contributing in such meaningful ways.

The accomplishments of the day included, but were not limited to:
We cleaned, organized and painted two Boys and Girls Clubs and a church where children and youth meet for important programs and activities.
We also painted the Maternal Wellness Center.
We visited the elderly and mentally challenged adults.
We made soup and 800 lunches and collected coats for homeless folks which will be distributed at seven shelters.
We cleaned up trash on our sidewalks and streets.

Dr. King said, "Everyone can be great because everyone can serve."  On MLK Day of Service we were those servants.

We can't fully express how proud and grateful we are to lead this effort with such a wonderful congregation of people.
